Restylane consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body and, in contrast to Botox, not a neurotoxin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is biodegradable. Restylane and the body's own hyaluronic acid bind water, and together they create volume in the tissue.
A treatment generally takes 30 minutes and is relatively painless. An anaesthetic can be applied to the area being treated prior to the procedure. When enhancing the lips, a local anaesthetic injection is often given.
Immediately after the treatment a slight redness and swelling in the treated area may occur. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days.
