RoboDent®

Dr C. Schüttler-Janikulla MSc (Master of Science) in Implantology told us that a new technology, which makes the setting of dental implants easier, had been introduced to the market in Germany at the beginning of 2002. The system which is called "RoboDent®" makes it even possible that the patient can go home with new dentures after two treatments only. "RoboDent®" consists of a regular PC monitor, a small navigation device, which can be mounted easily on any common handpiece, and some further additional components.

Before the implantation a CT (computer tomography) scan will be done and an impression of the jaw will be taken. The software processes the tomographical data and computes the optimal drilling angle. An acoustic signal warns the dentist when the right drilling depth has been reached. Furthermore "RoboDent®" cautions the implantologist against drilling right next to the nerves. The implantologist can monitor the entire process on the screen.

Collegial cooperation and professional benefit
(Zahnarztwoche DZW no. 12/2004 March 17, 2004)

Europe's only state university for postgraduate continuing education celebrates the first graduates to be awarded a Master of Science Degree in dental professions:

Danube University is Europe's only state university for postgraduate continuing education. When it was founded six years ago it was an experiment, now it is a success story. At Danube University Krems 2500 students have enrolled in 50 several courses. It is leading in postgraduate continuing education in Europe.

The first successful graduates to be awarded a Master of Science Degree (Zahnarztwoche DZW no. 12/2004 March 17, 2004)

The first graduates to be awarded a Master of Science Degree concluded postgraduate university studies successfully as "Master of Science in Implantology" or "Master of Science in Periodontology".

Scientifically brilliant Master theses with a high clinical value (Zahnarztwoche DZW no. 12/2004 March 17, 2004)

The first one hundred German dentists finish postgraduate university studies with Master of Science in Implantology and Master of Science in Periodontology successfully.

Finally the first one hundred German dentists – all of them experienced practitioners - gained through postgraduate studies what has been tradition for years already in countries with a highly developed scientific dentistry, such as the USA, Scandinavia and other European countries. There specializing in dentistry after gaining one’s licence is quite common.

Dr. med. dent.Claus Schüttler-Janikulla, MSc

Qualified dentist of Implantology and Master of Science during the award-giving ceremony of the Danube University Wien/Krems, where he was awarded the university degree as a graduate of the first year.

Nearly 700 students have enrolled in dentistry at Danube University. Students, most of them successful dentists already, are enthusiastic about the offers at the university. As a consequence in autumn 2004 the courses in periodontology and implantology were offered for the fourth time and courses in orthodontics for the third time in March 2004 and courses in aesthetic-reconstructive dentistry for the second time in autumn 2004. Acknowledged German university professors as leading scientists are in charge of all courses of studies.

Postgraduate courses of studies for dentists

Advanced vocational courses of studies that include five semesters to be attended by professional dentists are offered by Danube University Krems, the so far only state university in Europe for postgraduate continuing education.

The qualified dentist is able to gain his or her degree as Master of Science in Periodontology (MSc), Implantology (MSc) or Orthodontics (MSc), Oral Surgery (MSc), Aesthetic-Reconstructive Dentistry (MSc) as well as Function and Prosthetics (MSc).

With the Master degree to become a specialist

After finishing university studies successfully the graduate is given an additional academic degree, which certifies his special knowledge as an implantologist, orthodontist, periodontist etc and enables him or her, to offer the appropriate subject as a special treatment area at his practice according to the latest scientific standards as Master of Science. In the aftermath there are many additional chances for the graduate to position himself as a specialist concerning patients as well as financial matters. First participants finished their studies successfully and were awarded their Master degree in their special area.

More and better treatment – more (paying) patients

According to polls patients are searching the specialist. Having found him or her, they are ready to pay more money for a "better treatment", to agree on private contracts. Trust through safety, not because of self-made names or special professional aspects, but just through postgraduate studies that are accomplished with an internationally accepted academic degree.
